UNIFORMED DEPUTY BAILIFF
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The City of Kettering is recruiting to fill the regular full-time position of Uniformed Deputy Bailiff. The Uniformed Deputy Bailiff is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of court officials and facilities within the City of Kettering Municipal Court Building, as well as transporting prisoners; serving court papers, including warrants; assisting other court officials and performing other related duties as required. This is a 40 hour per week position, Monday through Friday with few evening hours. The schedule may fluctuate to accommodate back-up coverage if needed.
Duties would require the Deputy Bailiff to be in uniform. The Uniformed Deputy Bailiff is supervised by and reports to the Support Services Sergeant.
Must successfully complete required mandatory training as indicated by the Department and the law; must have thorough knowledge of Police Department policies and procedures, the Ohio Revised Code, City Ordinances, and specific knowledge of techniques dealing with the handling and transport of custodial prisoners. Must have the ability to learn how to operate weapons detection equipment and other screening devices and to acquire a working knowledge of security methods and safety practices. Must have specific knowledge and application of firearm and defense techniques, including the ability to meet Department standards; specific knowledge and application of First Aid; the ability to deal effectively and courteously with court officials, police officers, prisoners and the public; the ability to evaluate information, analyze situations, and exercise sound, independent judgment and initiative. Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision, the ability to use a computer system and effectively maintain paper and electronic records. Must be in adequate physical condition to perform essential duties of the position and must possess a high degree of integrity and honesty.
Success as a municipal, county, state or federal law enforcement officer or other similar experience is desired. Must have and maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Candidates for this position must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment and possess a high school graduate level of ability in English, grammar, math, and spelling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Due to the nature of the work, prior to appointment all candidates will be required to submit to a police background investigation, polygraph examination(s), psychological assessment and medical examination.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Pay range is $26.46 to $33.87 per hour; entry rate contingent upon applicant’s related experience, knowledge and abilities. Excellent benefits.
