SENIOR AND ADULT PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

The City of Kettering’s Award Winning Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department seeks an exceptional professional to fill the full-time position of “Senior and Adult Program Supervisor.” The Supervisor performs work under the general direction of the Division Manager of Recreation and is responsible for the supervision and operation of the senior adult programs, events and services for the Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center. Assists the Division Manager of Recreation in the development of a comprehensive senior adult community recreation program; oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of all senior adult programs, events and services for seniors; works with the Senior Services Coordinator to bring social services and education to the senior community. The Supervisor maintains cooperative working relations with community service agencies and organizations whose activities can benefit the program, works with the Senior Advisory Board to involve them in the development and evaluation of the Senior Center’s programs and activities and serves as editor for the monthly Lathrem Letter. Selects, trains and supervises all program coordinators and necessary support staff and volunteers; administers and enforces personnel policies and procedures for program staff; and is responsible for all administrative duties of the Lathrem Senior Center and associated front desk services. Manages senior community transportation program, funding requirements and all associated operational components. Must be available for some evening and weekend facility management duties.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Gerontology or a related field, with a Master’s Degree preferred, and experience in community based recreation for older adults. Must have the ability to take primary responsibility for the entire program operation. Strong interpersonal skills, experience in working with seniors, volunteers and a background in recreational service delivery programs desirable. Excellent organizational and staff supervisory skills are required, as well as the ability to work effectively with all employees, City officials and the general public. Experience in budget management and preparation required. Excellent communication skills and strong leadership abilities are desirable. Previous recreation program development and management experience and being a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) are also preferred. If not currently certified in CPR and First Aid, certification will be required after appointment.
The salary range for this position is up to $70,096; excellent benefits. Entry rate is contingent on candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge and abilities.
