Skate Instruction Coordinator

The City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is recruiting to fill a Regular Part-Time Skate Instruction Coordinator position for the Kettering Recreation Complex. This position is responsible for organizing and supervising all instructional ice arena classes and assisting participants and the public with questions and concerns of classes. The position is for 20 hours per week from August through May and 5 hours per week in June and July.
Examples of Duties: (Illustrative Only)
Responsible for training and educating instruction staff;
Maintains a high level of awareness of needs among participants and public;
Keeps parents and participants informed of rules and regulations, classes and class schedules, cancellation and make-up policies, hours, class start dates, and other pertinent information;
Maintain class ratios and cancel/combine/add classes as needed to maximize ice use;
Makes sure Arena is ready for classes to begin;
Keeps Arena Manager informed of schedules, equipment needs and other daily happenings;
Assumes supervision in absence of Coordinator and/or Arena Manager;
Makes sure all attendance reports are completed properly by instructors and submitted to Arena Manager;
Assists with Arena operations as requested;
Is available at Arena to fill in with operational staff as needed;
Network with schools/groups for promotions;
Attends all staff meetings as requested by supervisor;
Carries out any assigned responsibilities relating to the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as directed by the Arena Facility Coordinator, Arena Manager, Superintendent or Director.
The applicant must possess past experience and knowledge of managing employees and the proper attitude for handling the public as well as the needs of specialized instructors. The applicant must be enthusiastic, show initiative, be flexible, have computer and organizational skills. Required to attend ongoing education clinics/seminars (PSA, ISI, USFS, LTSUSA). The applicant must have sufficient knowledge and ability to successfully operate and manage a Learn To Skate Program. Must have current First Aid and CPR certification. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, City officials and the general public. Applicants should have at least a high school graduate-level of ability in English, grammar and business math. Accuracy in all work is important.
Pay range $16.70 to $22.16 per hour. Entry rate is contingent upon candidate’s related skills, knowledge and abilities. Benefits include prorated sick leave, vacation leave and holiday pay.
