PRESCHOOL CLASS INSTRUCTOR

(Contractual Position)

THE POSITION:

The City of Kettering, Ohio, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department is recruiting to fill the contractual position of “Preschool Class Instructor.” The Preschool Class Instructor teaches and coordinates the instruction of the Tot Lot Preschool Program for the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. The position is also responsible for program supervision and a staff of two instructor aides. General supervision is received from the Program and Youth Development Supervisor. This position has a variable weekly schedule not to exceed 20 hours per week with an anticipated start date of August, 2018.

This position coordinates all preschool classes for the Tot Lot preschool program and supervises contractual preschool instructor aides. This position composes monthly Tot Lot e-newsletters, and is responsible for the communication between participants, parents regarding the program. This position reviews time cards before submitting to Program Supervisor, submits all completed attendance reports and maintains a positive working relationship with parents and staff.  In addition, this position is responsible for honestly and fairly interacting with parents and staff members, developing requested monthly reports, developing and implementing goals and objectives, and informing Program Supervisor of any suggested policy changes, public criticism and complaints or personnel conflicts.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must hold current CPR and First Aid certifications. Candidates must have an enthusiastic attitude, be creative, enjoy working with children as well as parents, possess initiative, be assertive and possess strong communication skills. Associates degree in child development or high school diploma with two years’ related work experience and educational training preferred. Experience must clearly demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills and abilities.

COMPENSATION:

Pay range is $14.00 to $18.00 per hour, with entry rate contingent upon the applicant’s related skills, knowledge and abilities.
