Kettering Municipal Court is recruiting a Full-Time Probation Officer.  The Probation Officer will be responsible for supervising individuals placed on probation to assure their compliance with Court-ordered directives, conditions and rules of probation. The Probation Officer will supervise a caseload of offenders requiring frequent contacts by telephone, office visits and/or field visits. The Probation Department uses a variety of tools and programming to monitor and measure offender compliance. These tools include, but are not limited to, urinalysis testing, electronic monitoring, Ohio Risk Assessment System, diversion programs, treatment programs, education and counseling.  The Probation Officer will assist in the identification of community resources to meet the specific needs of individuals placed on probation.  This position maintains courteous and professional interaction with individuals placed on probation, the general public, attorneys, law enforcement, treatment agencies and other professionals working at the courthouse.


Knowledge and ability in supervising individuals placed on probation or community control or corrections is required. Ability to communicate concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing. Must demonstrate sensitivity, awareness and understanding of individuals who come from many different backgrounds, cultures and heritages. Must have the willingness and ability to work with individuals suffering from substance abuse issues, mental health issues and other behavioral disorders. Must be committed and driven to aid individuals placed on probation with their rehabilitation process in an effort to prevent future involvement in the criminal justice system.  Must have the ability to work as part of a team in a small office and be responsible, mature and professional. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in corrections, criminal justice, sociology, social work, criminology, psychology, or a closely related field is preferred.


The salary range for this position is $19.69/hr ($40,955.20 annually) to $30.07/hr ($62,545.60 annually); excellent benefits. The entry rate is contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge and abilities.
