Required Experience and Training:
In order to compete for the position of Fire Captain, Firefighters must have a minimum of three (3) full years’ experience in firefighting and other emergency operations as a regular full-time Kettering Firefighter/Paramedic when the Civil Service testing process will be implemented with the administration of the written examination. The written examination is currently scheduled for February 8, 2019 at 9:00 am, but is subject to change. Participants will be notified of any changes in date.
Required training for the position includes the completion of approved local, state or national programs in basic tactics and strategy and incident management. It is expected that the Fire Captains maintain their knowledge of current practices, procedures, and equipment through continuing education at seminars, conferences, fire schools, the State Fire Academy and the National Fire Academy.
Reservations for the examination may be obtained in the Human Resource Department and they will be accepted beginning at 8:00 am on December 26, 2018 until 5:00 pm on January 11, 2019. All reservations must be filed with the Human Resource Department by this time. Candidates may confirm their eligibility to compete in this promotional process at the time reservations are filed.
TIME AND PLACE OF EXAMINATION:
All candidates should report to the Community Room at Fire Headquarters, 4745 Hempstead Station Drive, Kettering, Ohio at 9:00 am on February 8, 2019, for the Written Examination.
Each candidate will be scheduled for one day of participation in the Assessment Center process. The Assessment Center is scheduled for February 21 and February 22, 2019 in the Community Room at Fire Headquarters. The date and location are subject to change based upon the number of candidates assessed. Participants will be notified of any changes in date or location.
