                       DESKTOP SUPPORT TECHNICIAN (Regular Full-Time Position)

The City of Kettering is recruiting to fill the regular full-time position of “Desktop Support Technician”. This position reports to the Information Systems Manager and assists staff with technical support of desktop computers, applications, and related technology, including specification, installation, and testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines. This position also assists in the maintenance and testing of network equipment, servers, and associated equipment and involves a high degree of interaction with employees throughout the City. The position’s responsibilities require independent analysis, communication and problem solving. Work is performed with general supervision and requires initiative and judgment.


The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of technologies and technical concepts including, but not limited to: working knowledge of PC and peripheral hardware setup, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting; experience with Windows 10 and general operating system concepts, Cisco CallManager, Unity and VoIP phone hardware, managed Antivirus products, backup software and concepts, networking concepts and troubleshooting techniques; and configuration and troubleshooting of wireless networks and mobile devices. Experience with ESET preferred and experience with Cisco IOS is a plus. Exceptional customer service skills and written and verbal communication skills are required due to the significant interaction with technology users. Work is performed with little supervision and requires initiative and good judgment and the capability of rapidly learning new technologies. Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and solving complex problems is needed. Excellent organizational and time management skills are required as well as an understanding of local government operations and procedures. An Associate degree in Information Systems or a closely related field and a minimum of one year of work experience in a technical position or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is required. Experience in local government work experience is preferred.


The salary range for this position is $22.66/hr ($47,133 annually) to $29.38/hr ($61,110 annually); excellent benefits. The entry rate is contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge and abilities.
