The City of Kettering is recruiting to fill the regular full-time position of Administrative Designer. This position provides desktop publishing and graphics support to City departments, boards and commissions for the purpose of distributing information to the public, to assist departments with internal documents thereby improving work flow and efficiency and to maintain a central location for City documents, logos, photos, and art.
The Administrative Designer utilizes PC-based page layout software, image-editing software, word processing, computerized drawing software and scanning equipment to prepare flyers, brochures, newsletters, posters, invitations, or other documents that need to be print production; collaborates with and advises departmental staff regarding available and recommended graphics design and media communications to ensure uniform and well-designed communications systems and media; prepares photos and artwork for print or web; creates original artwork and logos; designs documents that reflect the Kettering brand as a community of choice and adhere to style and usage standards; produces interactive documents compatible with current computer technology for on-line use.
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite; must demonstrate good judgment in determining work priority when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines; strong customer service skills are essential; knowledge of digital photography and mass production methods concerning graphic media; general knowledge of color, color systems, codes and their applications; general knowledge of format, layout construction and typographic integration. Must have excellent reasoning, listening and comprehension skills; ability to proofread and assure accuracy in the final work product; general knowledge of design principles including balance, dominance, scale, line, color, shape, and texture; ability to work on multiple jobs in various stages of design, proofing, and revision. Knowledge of Desktop Design and Print Shop industry and procedures; ability to communicate effectively with City staff and the general public; requires a mastery of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and usage. Work requires performance under general supervision, with the ability to create works that are complete and accurate in form and substance and that reflect positively upon the City. Ability to learn and correctly use technical or specialized terminology commonly found in government documents such as contracts, lease agreements, complaints, ordinances, resolutions, and easement agreements. Graduation from high school or its equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in graphic design, or digital media or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
The pay range for this position is $20.83/hour to $29.55/hour; excellent benefits. Entry rate is contingent on candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge and abilities.
