Hewitt Bikeway
Status Update: The contractor is plans to start work on this project the last week of July or early August.
Description: The Hewitt Avenue Bikeway Connector will begin at the Iron Horse Bike Trail and continue eastward along Whipp Road and Hewitt Avenue to the intersection of Bigger Road. It will then continue south on Bigger for approximately 240′. The section of path on Hewitt Road will be a shared used facility with existing traffic. The path will cross Bigger Road to connect into the existing asphalt path on the east side of Bigger Road. The crossing will include a center refuge island, signage, pavement markings, lighting and flashers to improve safety for both pedestrians and bikes.
The City of Kettering is jointly working with the City of Centerville in the cost sharing of the local match for this project. This project will benefit both communities and the region by connecting an important section of path. Currently the Iron Horse Bike Trail ends at the north side of I-675. The Hewitt Connector project will allow riders to safely go over I-675 with the existing path on Bigger Road and connect back into the Iron Horse Trail.
