Civil Rights Act of 1964 – Title VI
About Title VI
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is comprehensive U.S. legislation intended to end discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin. It is often called the most important U.S. law on civil rights since Reconstruction (1865–77) and is a hallmark of the American civil rights movement. Of its eleven titles, Title VI prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
City of Kettering
The City of Kettering strives to serve is residents and businesses in a manner devoid of discrimination that is harmful to the social fabric of our community. The Engineering Department, in particular, enforces a policy that aims to ensure that no person will be denied the benefits of or be excluded from participation in or be subjected to discrimination under any program, service, or activity on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, low-income status, or limited English proficiency.
The City of Kettering strongly opposes the discrimination of any person–whether among our employees, our business partners, or the citizens who benefit from Kettering’s transportation system–for any reason, including race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or proficiency in English. We stand against discrimination for two reasons. First, because it’s the right thing to do. Secondly, because we are required to under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as well as other laws and executive orders.
