Community Composting
As of Dec. 1, 2025, the City of Kettering is proud to offer a convenient option for residents to compost food scraps by partnering with Compost Courier, GoZERO Services. Located at 2801 E. Stroop Road at Indian Riffle Park (behind Tannenberg Kennels), the compost totes sit next to the community recycling dumpster, as well as the site of spring mulch and compost pick up.
It is recommended that compostable materials be collected and transported in a 3 or 6-gallon bucket. BPI Certified liners can be used and emptied into the larger bins. This will make maintenance of home buckets easier, but is not a requirement. Buckets and bags can be purchased from a variety of local and online retailers. Purchasing a bucket with a lid is suggested to avoid odors and reduce unwanted neighborhood wildlife from exploring the contents.
Thanks to generous support from Montgomery County Environmental Services, a cart corral with educational panels will be constructed in 2026.
What can you put in the compost buckets? Our friends at GoZERO remind us, “If it grows, it goes”. Please refer to the list below for guidelines, or reach out to the Sustainability Office at (937) 296-2531.
