City of Kettering and Kettering City Schools Campus Traffic Study

The City of Kettering and the Kettering City School District (KCS) are collaborating to enhance traffic flow on and around the Fairmont High School campus. KCS is developing a plan to construct a new middle school on the Fairmont campus property, immediately west of the existing high school building. This is being done as part of their Future-Ready Facilities Planning Proccess.

The planning process for a new middle school includes a traffic study to examine current and future traffic movements on both the Fairmont campus and the surrounding public streets, including Far Hills Avenue, Shroyer Road and Lincoln Park Boulevard, as well as the residential streets in the vicinity. KCS has hired a traffic engineering consultant to gather data and provide recommendations for improvements. A preliminary site plan for the new middle school and major renovations to the academic wings of Fairmont High School is shown below. The proposed site plan shows parent drop off & pick up for both schools off Far Hills Avenue; separate areas for bus drop off & pick up for both schools; staff/student parking remaining largely in their existing areas; and a new parking lot west of the proposed middle school. Please note that there is a staggered arrival and dismissal time for the middle school and high school, with approximately an hour difference between drop-off and pick-up for the students. Pathways for pedestrians and bicyclists will also be provided with the project.

As part of the study process, the City and KCS gathered community feedback on both existing and proposed traffic flows for the new middle school and the proposed reconstruction of Fairmont High School through a survey.  The survey has been closed as of Nov. 7, 2025.  We will use this page to post future information on behalf of the City.  The Kettering City Schools will be the primary source of information regarding their plans.
