May Is Older Americans Month!
Neighborhood Celebrations Honoring Seniors
Older Americans Month is a time for our nation to celebrate the contributions of individuals who have given so much to our country.
It began in 1963 when President Kennedy declared May as Senior Citizens Month. In 1980, President Carter changed that name to Older Americans Month. Every president since Kennedy has issued a proclamation asking the nation to recognize these individuals and their contributions.
The City of Kettering will celebrate with a formal proclamation by Mayor Patterson and the City Council proclaiming May as Older Americans Month in the City of Kettering.
There will be neighborhood celebrations honoring those Seniors who have chosen to make Kettering home. Volunteers are needed to attend these area socials. If you would like to participate in any of these socials contact Vickie Carraher at 296-3356.
