3rd Annual Kettering-Oakwood
Martin Luther King Breakfast Set for January 16, 2006

The cities of Kettering and Oakwood will celebrate the life and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a community-wide breakfast on January 16, 2006 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Activity Center of Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road and Lincoln Park Boulevard, Kettering.

The program will feature presentations on Dr. King’s life and work, as well as musical selections celebrating the civil rights era. The speaker will be Rev. Dr. Leah Gaskin Fitchue, President of Payne Theological Seminary, Wilberforce, Ohio.

An annual highlight of the event is the recognition of Oakwood and Kettering students participating in poster and essay contests on Dr. King’s dream for racial justice and reconciliation. Posters will be on display at the event.

Kettering firefighters will prepare the breakfast, and Oakwood and Kettering city council members will serve.

Tickets — $5 (adults) and $2 (children and students) — will be available from November 30 at the Kettering Government Center, Kettering Lathrem Senior Center, Oakwood City Building, Oakwood Community Center, Wright Memorial Library, Kettering-Moraine-Oakwood Chamber of Commerce, and Books & Company.
