Topics of Instruction
The Kettering Citizens Fire Academy provides a variety of interesting and useful information in a friendly, informal setting. The instructors are both career and volunteer firefighters and members of the Kettering Fire Department. The instructors interact with students in class and in the field for a great learning experience!

There are no tests…just fun, along with an opportunity to learn about firefighting, emergency medical services and the department that protects us and our property.

Put on the firefighter’s gear:
Participants get hands-on experience using a fire extinguisher. They can put on firefighting gear and experience the smoke house, which is filled with artificial smoke to simulate a burning building.

“The smoke house at the fire department was a real eye-opener. It’s totally dark and full of smoke. And to be in here with a uniform wearing all that equipment and to be expected to put out the fire is pretty amazing.”
