Schedule
The Kettering Citizens Fire Academy (KCFA) is a great way to learn about the City of Kettering, the Fire Department, emergency medical services (EMS) and firefighting! Students with Fire Chief Robert Zickler
Students with Fire Chief Robert Zickler

Yearly schedule and deadlines for application:
Spring classes:
- Classes start in April and end in June.
- Deadline for sign-up is March.
Fall classes:
- Classes start in September and end in November.
- Deadline for sign-up is August.

Requirements to attend:
First, and most importantly, you must have an interest in the City and its firefighting/EMS.
You must be age 16 or over; there is no upper age limit. We've had attendees as young as 16 and as old as 80.
Both Kettering residents and nonresidents are welcome to attend.

Typical class schedules:
The first week includes a welcome by the Kettering Fire Chief and covers the history of the Kettering Fire Department. Weeks two through seven will cover a variety of topics related to firefighting and EMS, with much of the instruction being done in the field.

The program includes an optional eighth week during which participants can be certified in CPR and the use of automatic external defibrillators.

Finally, a short graduation ceremony and pizza party will be held to recognize attendees’ accomplishments!

“After eight wonderful weeks, we had a graduation, pizza party and were given class shirts. At that time we were informed about volunteer opportunities. What a great experience!”
