Kettering Citizens Police Academy celebrates 12 years with 35 Active Volunteers.  Since September 11, 2001, volunteers in connection with F.E.M.A. and VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) dedicated 15,000 hours given to community service.

Members of the Kettering Citizen Police Academy Alumni received the Daily Points of Light Award.  Thanks to all of you who help us every day.  We're proud of you!  

Kettering Police Department is supported by many volunteers working in a wide variety of functions. These volunteers contributed 1820 hours during the first quarter of 2000.

Volunteer Programs & Roles

Crime Prevention Coordinators
Neighborhood Watch Regional Coordinators (18)
Regional Coordinators are responsible for communicating with Neighborhood Watch Groups through the Neighborhood Watch Coordinators and recruit and build new Neighborhood Watch Groups
Neighborhood Watch Coordinators (521)
Responsible for their neighborhoods for communicating police reports that may affect their areas. Responsible for maintaining the Neighborhood Watch Groups.
Citizen Speed Watch (30)
Citizen Speed Watch Volunteers provide traffic monitoring support to the Kettering Police Department Patrol Section.
Car Maintenance Couriers
Provides support for the Kettering Police Department in maintaining the vehicles.
Clerical & Filing
Fingerprinting
Since 1995 this group has provided 4000 citizens with fingerprinting support for non-criminal activities and licenses ( i.e. food handlers, day care workers, banking employees, etc).
Maintaining Community Relations Computers, Programs, and Statistics
Community Relations Staff Support as needed
(Administrative assistance, distribution of newsletters, meeting preparation, and other duties)
Citizens Police Academy Support
Provides graduation certificates, snacks, administrative support and building access for the citizens attending the Kettering Citizens Police Academy.
Kettering Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (KCPAAA)
The KCPAAA is organized by former alumni of the Kettering Citizens Police Academy and supports various volunteer activities within the Kettering Police Department. Most notable would be the Citizens Speed Watch, Fingerprinting, and Citizen Police Academy support. Marilyn Knight, President – 299-8429
