In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of the Planning and Development Department, the staff is involved in many on-going planning projects that are helping to improve the overall quality of life for our residents.

  Community Blood Center

New Tissue Services Facility

 

On September 30th of last year a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Community Tissue Services (CTS-Dayton) facility to be built at the Miami Valley Research Park, at 2900 College Drive in Kettering. The new 90,000 square foot building will be a state-of-the-art tissue processing and distribution facility providing services to 21 hospitals in an eleven county area in Ohio. CTS-Dayton is part of the Community Blood Bank of Dayton. Although the ground is now frozen, behind the scenes and underground work is currently underway for the construction of this facility.

 

Kroger Fuel Center - 2115 E. Dorothy Lane

Building permit drawings are about complete for a new fuel center to be constructed at the Kroger store located at 2115 E. Dorothy Ln. The new facility will be located on the east side of the existing store and will provide Kroger customers an opportunity to take advantage of their gasoline discounts at a south of town location. Construction is expected to start by summer of this year.


 

New Office Building at Charlotte Gardens - 4345 Far Hills Avenue - Far Hills Ave. at Shroyer Rd.

Construction has just been completed on a new 9,310 square foot building at Charlotte Gardens at 4345 Far Hills Avenue. About half of the building (4,300 sq. ft.) will be used to house a recruiting center for the various branches of U.S. Armed Forces, each with a separate entrance on the front or side of the facility. Other office tenant spaces are available on the northern portion of this building. The new structure is part of the redevelopment of the former Groby Gardens Center property, which was rezoned Economic Development Overlay District #21. Heart Hospital Expansion at Kettering Medical Center - 3535 Southern Blvd.

Construction is well underway on the new 114,000 square foot Schuster Heart Hospital to be completed by the summer of this year. This new six-story tower is located in front of the Kettering Medical Center at 3535 Southern Blvd. The facility will include 90 beds, as well as the latest in cardiac diagnostics, cath-lab technology and an electro-physiology lab. KMC officials estimate that about 6,000 catheterizations and 600 open-heart surgeries will be performed in the first full year of operations. This new construction is one of the principal improvement projects that was envisioned in the Kettering Medical Center Master Plan, approved by Kettering City Council in 2006.
