Buying A Home

Applicants for this program must have completed an approved Individual Development Account (IDA) program.  An IDA program assists the homebuyer in saving for the purchase and long-term maintenance of the home.  Classes in these programs are typically between six and nine months in length.  Current approved IDA programs are offered through the Community Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area and the Home Ownership Center of Greater Dayton.  Applicants must provide a minimum contribution of $1000 toward the purchase of the home.  City funds will be used to match $2.00 for every $1.00 of homebuyer contribution, up to a maximum of $5,000.  The assistance from the City can be used for down payment or for closing costs.  The use of City funding can only be applied to make the housing unit more affordable; any return of City funds in the form of "cash back" to the homebuyer will not be allowed.

The State of Ohio offers many products than can assist with homeownership, including grants and low interest loans.  For more information about the state programs, visit their website at www.ohiohome.org
