Land Lab Nature Program
A volunteer opportunity that will appeal to those who enjoy being outdoors and working with children is the Land Lab Nature Program. The program is an exciting and educationally rewarding experience for volunteers, as well as students.

The Land Lab Nature Program is a cooperative effort between Kettering City School teachers and the City of Kettering to enhance the science curriculum with outdoor experiences. The programs are held at either Pondview Park or Southdale Park and Nature Center. Without volunteers, however, the program would not be possible. In fact, volunteers are so essential to the Land Lab experience that the future of the program depends on them.

Volunteers are an essential part of the Land Lab experience because they run activities and lead groups as they rotate through up to 4 different stations. Volunteers are asked to complete a short orientation so that they become familiar with the program and comfortable with the two parks.

All of the programs are completed within two hours and are scheduled as a morning (9:00-11:00 am) or afternoon session (11:30 am-1:30 pm). Volunteers can schedule themselves for either or both sessions on a given day and can choose a particular day or grade to work with. Other volunteer opportunities also exist within the Land Lab Program for individuals and groups.

To become a Land Lab Volunteer:

1. Call or stop by the City of Kettering Volunteer Office and ask for an ACTIVE Volunteer Application and Police Background Check form and fill them out.
2. Call the Land Lab Coordinator to arrange an orientation class, discuss availability, and choose a specific volunteer opportunity.
