If I want to apply for more than one position, do I have to file more than one application?
Yes. A separate employment application is required for each position applied for. However, you may apply for as many positions as you wish.

How do I find out about the duties and requirements of a position?
A recruitment announcement is posted for each position. The recruitment announcement is an excellent source of information that lists the salary, duties of the position, the requirements necessary to qualify for consideration, whether or not a civil service exam is required and the date by which applications must be submitted.

A position’s education and experience requirements are stated on the recruitment announcement. Read the requirements carefully. The position may require certain education and/or experience, a license and/or certification, and knowledge and/or ability in specific areas. When in doubt, it is best to submit your application and the Human Resource Department Staff will determine whether or not you meet the requirements.

How does the Human Resource Department determine if I qualify for this position?
Generally, the Human Resource Manager assigned to the recruitment reviews applications to evaluate a candidate's education and experience and determine if he/she is qualified for the position. It is very important that you complete the application materials thoroughly.

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on the information you provide on the application and supplements. Therefore, be sure to include paid and voluntary work experience. Also include other information that is relevant to the job, such as licenses, professional affiliations, classes you have taken, training you have received and all other special qualifications. A resume may be submitted along with your completed application.

Due to the fact that the City of Kettering often receives a large number of applications for posted positions, the application review process can take several weeks. Please be patient. We want to give each application the consideration it deserves.

How do I check the status of a vacancy?
The Jobs Status is shown on the opportunities page is updated late Friday afternoon. It provides updates on the selection process and lists jobs recently filled.

Will you hold my application until an opening occurs?
No. The City only accepts applications for open positions; that is, any position which has been announced and for which we are actively recruiting.

How can I express interest in a job not on the Job Opportunites pages?
Will you tell me when an opening comes available?

If you are interested in a job not on our Job Opportunities List, do not complete an employment application. Instead, contact the Human Resources Department at (937)-296-2446, fill out an interest card online or send an email to Human Resources and request that an interest card be filled out. We will notify you if the position becomes open. See a list of full-time and part-time authorized positions listed in the interest card form, which contains a list of positions and the current table of organization.
