Frequently Asked Questions

Are you trying to lose those last 10 pounds?

Looking for a way to reduce your cholesterol?

Needing more energy and stamina?

Kettering’s new Employee Wellness Program can help you achieve all your fitness and wellness goals. Plus, not only will you feel better, but you also have the opportunity to earn a $250 gift certificate by earning points every time you work out or attend a wellness screening or lecture. Did we mention the best part of all—it’s free.

Yes, it’s FREE!

Full-time employees and volunteer firefighters, regardless of their physical condition level or exercise history, are eligible to participate. The objectives of this pilot program are:

  • Improve the overall health, physical & mental wellness of the City of Kettering’s work force.
  • Foster positive employee morale and relationships.
  • Reduce health care costs for employees and the City of Kettering.
Invest in employees who invest in the City.

Program Components
Health Risk Appraisals
Health Risk Appraisals (HRA) will be conducted by the Kettering Medical Center (KMC) and are completely confidential. The goal of the HRA is to identify potential health risks that may need to be addressed before beginning an exercise program. KMC will communicate directly with the
employee regarding the results. The HRA includes:

  • Lifestyle Questionnaire
  • Physical Tests
  • Cholesterol, Blood Pressure and Body Fat Screenings
  • Flexibility Test

The HRA is not required for employees to participate in the Employee Wellness Program; however, it is required to receive a free fitness pass. What that means is: you can work out on your own (running, biking, working out at other facilities) and submit those activities for participation points without completing an HRA. But if you want to use City of Kettering facilities for free as part of the program, you must complete the HRA.

Whether or not you want a free pass, completing the HRA can provide valuable information concerning your health.

Education

Knowledge is power. Wellness, fitness and nutrition lectures will be held throughout the year, usually during the lunch hour. Topics will be determined based on suggestions by employees and the Wellness Committee. Employees attending program lectures will automatically be entered into a chance-to-win drawing of $50 for each lecture conducted. Additionally, DVD copies of the lecture will be distributed to each department. Employees wanting to be entered for the chance-to-win drawing must watch the lecture within 21 days of the actual lecture date. Employees wishing to claim participation points for watching the lecture, must also watch the lecture within 21 days of the actual lecture date. All DVD copies of lectures must be watched as a group to be eligible for the $50 prize or to claim participation points within the 21 day window (employees may not check out and watch the DVD on an individual basis). Please see your Employee Wellness Program Department Representative or Jim Engelhardt for additional details

Activity
Let’s get moving! Once the HRA is completed, employees will receive a free
annual pass to both the Kettering Recreation Complex and the Kettering Fitness & Wellness Center. If you are not ready to work out at the fitness center, you can begin your personal wellness program by simply walking two or more days a week at home or at the office with co-workers.

Health Screenings
Various health screenings will be held throughout the year at several locations including the Government Center, Kettering Recreation Complex and the Kettering Fitness & Wellness Center.

Incentive Program

It pays to play! There are several ways through the Incentive Program that employees can earn gift certificates, t-shirts and additional
participation points.

Wellness Employee of the Month
The Wellness Committee will select a Wellness Employee of the Month. Winners will receive a $50 gift certificate, T-shirt and 50 additional points
to apply to their annual total. The soon-to-becoveted award will be given to employees who:

  • Demonstrate active participation and leadership/encouragement in the program.
  • Experience significant personal success (examples include achieving weight loss goals, quitting smoking or improved physical condition).

Wellness Event Awards
At ten wellness events throughout the year, participating employees in attendance will have the chance to win a $50 gift certificate.
Events include:

  • 6 screenings (blood pressure excluded)
  • 4 out of 10 lectures

Year-End Bonus
Would you like to earn a $250 gift certificate? It’s easy! Employees earn participation points by working out and attending screenings and lectures. Employees who accumulate 400 or more points by the end of the year will receive a $250 gift certificate.
