The Kettering Safety Section coordinates special projects in collaboration with other City departments to assist in providing life safety education and injury prevention to all residents.

Older Adult Fall Prevention and Senior Home Safety is a regional project developed by the Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dayton in collaboration with the Kettering Safety Section, Kettering Fire Department and Kettering Senior Services. The City of Kettering program includes a train-the-trainer activity, self-assessment tools and survey for residents, interactive awareness education and senior resource advisement and assistance.


Guides for caregivers and older adults for home safety is provided in multiple languages. A guide is provided for those with Special Needs or disabilities that may need to exit a house or building in an emergency.

The Safety Section is an active participating agency in the Montgomery County Safe Communities coalition. As a regional effort and key objective of the Safety Section for Kettering drivers, a self assessment survey both in written format and an interactive computer based self-survey is being made available to Kettering residents age 55 and older.

CARFIT - Helping Mature Drivers find their Perfect Fit

Roadwise Review is a computer based program designed to be used in the privacy of one's own home. At the conclusion of each of the eight skill tests, a summary of results is displayed along with advice as to what the test taker should do. Many visual, medical, and physical rehabilitation options are available that can add substantially to the safe driving years of normally-aging individual.

The Safety Section is able to loan out this CD-ROM for older adults and caregivers. The Safety Section in collaboration with the Senior Services department also makes available other traffic and safety materials at various health and wellness events in the City.
