How do I sign up for the senior program?

If you are a current Senior Program (yellow bag) customer, you will automatically be enrolled. There will be an additional sign-up day for new senior program customers at the Lathrem Senior Center on May 6th from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. You may also signup anytime by contacting the city at 29-trash (298-7274).

Am I required to use a Waste Management 96-gallon wheeled trash cart?
No. You may use your own waste containers. However, if you would like to rent a 96-gallon wheeled, lidded container, you may do so for $3/month.

How do I pay under the program?
You will be billed in advance quarterly by Waste Management. The due date will be no more than 45 days in advance of the end of the quarter.

Who do I contact with billing or service issues?
You may call Waste Management’s Customer Service Center at 866-263-6445. City of Kettering staff will also be available to answer any questions you may have.

When will I get my recycling container or can I get a second recycling container?
If you are a new customer, Waste Management will deliver your recycling container once you sign up for the program. Yes, you may have more than one recycling container. Call the Customer Service Center at 866-263-6445.

What is Waste Management's phone number?

You may call Waste Management’s Customer Service Center at 866-263-6445.

What is the City of Kettering's Trash Hotline number?

29-TRASH (298-7274).

Do I have to call in for a bulk pickup?

Yes, please call Waste Management at 866-263-6445 at least 24 hours in advance of your regular pickup day to register for your bulk pickup.

Are bulk pickups and yard debris houseside or curbside?

Curbside.

Where can I buy yard debris bags?

Yard debris bags are available for $3/bag at the Kettering Government Center, the Yard Debris Center on Woodman Center Drive and at Kettering-area Kroger stores.

Why is there a rate increase?

The previous 5-year Contract was a fixed rate contract with no fuel adjustment provision. This caused our base rate to lag behind the market rate. The proposed rates for the new contract are competitive with the current market. The new contract also limits the base rate increase to only 3% at the beginning of year 5.

Why do we have to pay a fuel charge?

Paying a fuel charge keeps the cost to the resident down because it reduces the risk to the contractor on gas prices; i.e. our base bid price with fuel charge adjustment is $19.58/month vs. the base bid price with no fuel charge adjustment of $25.32/month.

Will I be reimbursed for my yellow/orange bags?

Yes. Residents will receive a refund for bags that are not used. Refunds may be obtained by returning the unused bags to the Kettering Government Center during the month of July.

What are the benefits of a single-hauler system?
The single-hauler system provides many benefits, including free recycling services, even at the low base rate, reduced traffic in neighborhoods, less vehicular damage to our streets and alleys and fewer missed pickups.

Are businesses and apartment complexes included in the singlehauler
system?

No. Businesses, apartment complexes of three or more units and condo/homeowners associations will continue to contract their own waste services.
