Trash & Recycling Cart Requirements

  • All material placed out for collection must fit in your Rumpke provided carts or a Rumpke specific overage bag.
  • All service levels must use Rumpke provided carts.
    • Trash & recycling carts for Standard or Premium customers are available in any combination of:

Rumpke Waste & Recycling handles trash collection and recycling within the City of Kettering. Your recycling container will be delivered upon initiation of trash service. Please contact Rumpke at www.rumpke.com or 1-800-828-8171.

Rumpke offers carts in various sizes to accommodate a wide range of both trash volume and storage space.  The ideal location for cart storage is within a garage or indoor structure.  If stored outside, City of Kettering ordinance requires that carts must be kept on the side or in rear of property.  Carts may not be kept at the curb, on the driveway, sidewalk or front of property.

Residents do not need to contact Rumpke to schedule bulk pick up.  Rumpke will collect up to three (3) bulk items each week without notification or scheduling.

  • Rumpke will collect bulk items such as appliances, mattresses, box springs, sofas, large furniture items, etc. weekly on your service day.  Upholstered items including sofas and mattresses must be wrapped in a sealable plastic.
  • Appliances containing Freon require special handling. Freon removal is required prior to pick-up.

Household hazardous waste can be disposed of at Montgomery County Solid Waste District’s  Moraine Transfer Facility located at 1001 Encrete Lane.  Please visit the MCSWD website or call 1-937-225-4999 for hours of operation and associated fees.

The City of Kettering no longer maintains a recycling program for these items. Montgomery County Solid Waste District accepts these materials for recycling. Please call MCSWD at  1-937-225-4999 or visit the MCSWD website for hours of operation, locations, acceptable drop-off items, and associated fees.

Rumpke will collect Christmas Trees through January 15 of each year.  Simply place at the curb on your regular collection day. Please make sure to remove all ornaments, lights and tinsel.  Trees longer than nine feet must be cut in half.

To be eligible for the qualified senior resident rate, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • All members of your household must be 65 years or older.
  • Your household must have reported less than $35,000 in all sources of income on the previous year’s tax returns.

To be eligible, participants must provide the following:

  • A signed note from their physician explaining that they are physically unable to take their trash to the curb.
  • A signed affidavit stating they nor anyone else residing in the household are physically unable to take their trash to the curb.

Rumpke observes the following holidays and does not pick up on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

  • If the holiday falls on a weekday before your regular service day, collection will be delayed one day.
  • If the holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, collection will NOT be delayed.
